JOE LICHTENSTEIN
between memory, dream and the unseen
Collector Praise
“I have several of Joe’s paintings now.
One of them sits by the reading chair and changes the mood of the room depending on the time of day. Another is in the hallway, and visitors always pause in front of it without fully knowing why.
I think that’s what I love: the work never shouts. It just quietly reveals more of itself the longer you live with it. And somehow, without meaning to, I’ve ended up building a small world of his pieces in my home ”
– H. B, London
“Joe was helpful throughout the whole process, in a way that felt like talking to someone who wanted the piece to find its right home. He asked a few questions about the room, the light, even what time of day we tend to sit in there — which, oddly, we hadn’t really considered before. It made us think about our own space differently. Anyway, the print arrived perfectly packaged, and the whole thing just felt… considered.”
Stefen T, Rye
Over 70 collectors worldwide have chosen to live with Joe’s art.
“Painting. Theatre. Animation.
They’re all expressions of the same thing”

Joe Lichtenstein moves between worlds—painting, theatre, animation—each a doorway into the same strange place. His work flickers between opposites: stillness and motion, solitude and connection, grief and joy. A frozen moment shifts. The inanimate breathes. Shadows move beneath the surface.
Within the darkness, there is light—color, movement, the thrill of something breaking through. Whether on canvas, on stage, or in stop-motion, Lichtenstein searches for the place where stillness turns to motion, where the unconscious speaks.
“Where does movement end and stillness begin? I want to find it.”
COMMISSIONS
Artwork Made Just for You
There is something singular about having a piece made just for you — a work that holds a mood, a memory, a fragment of your life — translated through my intuitive, dream-leaning lens.
My commissioned paintings are collaborations: you bring the story or the feeling; I shape it into something alive on the wall.
Every commission is created with museum-grade materials, built to last, and made with the same level of care as my personal studio work

THE BIGGEST PICTURE. YET…
In 2023 Joe was commissioned to make his first large scale work in collaboration with artist Lara Jaques. The brief was to make a something that was inspired by Bristol, and incorporating an evocation of the coastline that both artists grew up on.
It is 25ft high and 27ft wide. It took seven days to complete.
The mural is located on St Andrews Road in Bristol, UK. To find it on Google maps, click here.
